Hey guys! Welcome to my latest football blog. Today I'm going to be discussing England's qualification for next summer's World Cup in Brazil. England needed to beat Montenegro and Poland at home to be sure of reaching the finals, and this they did, beating Montenegro 4-1 and Poland 2-0. I am extremely pleased with this as it shows that England can cope with pressure and step up to the plate. They had to win two games and they did it in style, scoring six goals and conceding one. After a qualifying campaign where England have been criticised for some of their performances how did England reach the World Cup in such a brilliant manner?
The first reason is the approach of manager Roy Hodgson to not play defensive. Hodgson, well known to be a cautious manager, played young Andros Townsend on the wing instead of the uncreative James Milner. Townsend added real width and dynamism to England's play which enhanced their attacking threat.
The second reason is Wayne Rooney. The striker's two goals in two games helped England a lot to reach the finals.
England had to dig deep to beat Poland, but they did it well and managed to score in the last few minutes through captain Steven Gerrard. Both games were great England performances.
Next Thursday I will be blogging about how far I think we could go in the competition and the teams which stand in our way. Thanks for reading!
