Hey users! Welcome to my latest football blog. I apologise for the delay, the blog is a day late but at least it means I have more to talk about! Today's blog is about two games this week which I think have told us a lot about Premier League leaders Arsenal.
On Saturday Arsenal played Norwich City at home and beat them 4 - 1 with some beautifully made goals including a pass-and-move goal with several flicks on the edge of the box, finished with a volley from midfielder Jack Wilshere. This was the first of the four goals which sent Arsenal two points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. They then faced their first big test of the season at home to German giants Borussia Dortmund, a game they lost 2 - 1 thanks to a late goal from Poland international striker Robert Lewandowski. So what do these results mean to Arsenal's season?
I think that they will win the Premier League. They have one of the best midfields in Europe, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and big-money signing Mesut Ozil, along with the powerhouse of Olivier Giroud up front and a very solid centre-back partnership in Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. They also have a lot of money ready to spend on a new striker in January to assist their title charge, with Real Madrid's Karim Benzema a target. They are a strong side who play fluid attacking football, as seen in their Barcelona-esque first goal against Norwich.
They lost to Dortmund on Tuesday, but that means nothing. No one controlled the game. Dortmund are well known as a well organised side who press high up the pitch and are extremely effective on the counter-attack. On Tuesday they countered with eight minutes left and Robert Lewandowski scored with an excellent volley. Lewandowski was only yellow-carded for a red card offence and should not have been on the pitch. One result should not worry Arsenal fans - they are in for a successful season.
